A Productive Weekend

It has been such a beautiful weekend with some much needed sunshine! Patrick has been a busy bee, as usual...he has mowed, pulled weeds, got the pool looking beautiful, cleaned the porches and walks and has washed windows inside and out (that was Saturday!) Who knows what he'll accomplish today! Just looking at him makes me tired.....he can work circles around me, I don't know how he does it.

Last weekend he cleared off an area for my garden....I'm so excited to grow some of my own stuff! My brother built me a nice box so that I can keep it contained and raise the beds a bit.

One side I plan to do some tomatoes and peppers, and the other side I will use for herbs, like lots of basil, parsley, tarragon, rosemary and thyme and maybe more. I'd like to do cucumbers and some zucchini, but I'll have to see how much space I have. This is the first year I'm doing more than just a few herbs, so I might start off small and see how it goes.  I'm mostly interested in things for making salsa's and bruschetta and stuff like that.

We have to work on filling the boxes today and then we'll start putting the plants in......I'll let you know how that goes!

Also, I'm so excited that my hydrangeas are blooming....yeah!!! I was so upset last year when I didn't have a single bloom. I've had them for a about 5 years and they always did great every year. I missed having them last year and I didn't get to dry any.

My knock-out roses are doing really good this year too. If you haven't tried these before, they are great. You don't have to do anything to them and they bloom several times during the summer.

We are having a pretty productive weekend over here....hope yours is going well....enjoy!!!

Celebrating Mom

We decided that it would be fun to treat our mom to a nice breakfast.....away from her kitchen! Some time to sit and relax with the girls and cook all the things that we like!

We had such a nice time and aren't sure why we don't do this more often.

Here is what we fixed...........

Smoked Salmon & Goat Cheese Frittata

Rebekah's Almond Cheese Danish

Alex's Pretty Parfait

Banana Bread

We also had maple syrup bacon, mimosas and coffee....

Mom thinks it's funny...this trend of women wanting to stay home, cook and wear aprons! She is like...."that's what I've been doing for 50 years". We love you mom!
